running in doha

i've spent a lot of time sitting since arriving in doha and have been itching to take advantage of the non-snowy weather and get out for a run. the fact that it gets dark at 4:30 here combined with the tight streets partially without sidewalks that make up my neighbourhood have held me back. since i was off today, i decided to take advantage of the day light and get out there.

i ran through a new part of my neighbourhood and past what must have been a mosque during prayer time. the small parking lot was overflowing with cars and there were even people praying on their mats in the street that i had to dodge through. i decided to try going to the main streets that surround my neighbourhood which was a good choice because they had sidewalks which made it safe for running. what wasn't a such good choice was waiting until noon. in the desert. where you can't wear tank tops or shorts. it was hot! my face looked like a tomato when i got home - no wonder people were staring! :)

ps - i should mention that i don't know what people do for fitness here. i haven't seen anyone out running nor have i seen any gyms... i will have to investigate
